What is a mammogram screening? 

A screening mammography is one that is performed on women who have no symptoms or indicators of breast cancer. Breast cancer fatalities among women aged 40 to 74 can be reduced with regular screening mammography. This is because they can detect breast cancer early, allowing therapy to begin before it spreads. 

However, there are some hazards associated with mammography screening. They may discover something that appears abnormal but is not cancer. This leads to more testing, which can be stressful. Mammograms can sometimes overlook cancer when it is present. You are also exposed to radiation. 

 What is a mammogram for diagnostic purposes? 

 People who have a lump or other indications or symptoms of breast cancer should get a diagnostic mammography. Breast soreness, thickening of the breast skin, nipple discharge, or a change in breast size or shape are all possible symptoms. However, same symptoms can also be caused by a benign breast ailment (not cancer). A mammography, along with other testing, can assist your doctor in determining whether or not you have cancer. 

What is the procedure for a mammogram? 

 A mammography requires you to stand in front of an x-ray machine. Your breast is sandwiched between two plastic plates by the x-ray technician. The plates flatten and push your breast. This may be unpleasant, but it is necessary for obtaining a clear picture.
